If you enjoy those, you will absolutely relish the delicious flavours you\u2019ll find in one of the dedicated sushi restaurants that have sprung up all over the country. You can also make sushi yourself at home \u2013 it\u2019s a lot easier than it looks, and the ingredients for making super sushi (including the seaweed, known as <em>nori)\u00a0<\/em>freely available.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of this sushi guide is to help you understand a sushi menu and recognise the different pieces of sushi you will see displayed tantalisingly in restaurants and shops.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>TYPES OF SUSHI:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>MAKI<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/maki.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15866 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/maki-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/maki-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/maki-768x498.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/maki-400x260.jpg 400w, https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/maki.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/a>Maki is the most basic of the sushi items; the one most familiar to Western diners. Cooked sushi rice is laid onto a sheet of seaweed, topped with a filling such as vegetables or fish (or a mixture of the two), and rolled into a long tube which is then sliced into rounds.<\/p>\n<p>Cucumber, sweet peppers, salmon, tuna and egg (omelette) are the most common fillings for Maki rolls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/sushi-writing.gif\">NIGIRI<\/a><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/nigiri.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15872 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/nigiri-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/nigiri-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/nigiri-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/nigiri-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/nigiri.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><\/a>Nigiri Sushi consists of a small moulded rectangular cake of sushi rice topped with a thin slice of fish. In some cases, the fish might be raw, but more often smoked or pickled fish is used. Favourite toppings (known as neta) are\u00a0tuna,\u00a0eel,\u00a0haddock,\u00a0shad, snapper,\u00a0octopus, or shrimp.<\/p>\n<p>Some Sushi chefs have speciality Nigiri which uses a combination of toppings, and sometimes the toppings are held in place by a thin strip of seaweed (nori).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>URAMAKI<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15875 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/uramaki-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"272\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/uramaki-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/uramaki-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/uramaki-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/dentons.net\/localinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/uramaki.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 272px) 100vw, 272px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Literally an &#8220;inside-out roll&#8221;, Uramaki is similar to Maki sushi except that the rice is on the outside, and the seaweed wrapped around the filling in the middle. The\u00a0finished Uramaki roll is usually coated in sesame seeds or fish roe. You won&#8217;t usually find it at formal sushi restaurants, but it&#8217;s a quick and easy way to enjoy a sushi snack at home. We have however decided to include it here because it is often confused with sushi, and is generally available in most sushi bars and restaurants. Sashimi is raw sliced seafood, fish or meat, usually served draped over a garnish of shredded white radish. Illustrated is fillets of tuna served as sashimi.<\/p>\n<p>Sashimi is, in fact, usually served as a first course in a Japanese meal.
